Since my world went through the trials of the apocalypse, it became a place where you only survive if you're strong. Resources are scarce.
One way to gain power is to sacrifice your humanity and eat human flesh. Normally, this changes you to an outside species with demonic ties. Examples would be werewolves, undead, and the like. Only the desperate and weak choose this path.

Alphinaud was - we had a complicated relationship back at the school, but it really felt like we'd moved past it, here. It was nice to be able to get along with him, this time around... He's a good person.

Alphinaud seemed to want the best for everyone. It's unfortunate he had to be in this situation twice, but we remember the stories the dead left behind.
