[courtyard! except today jiji isn't at tea service, instead he seems to be occupying himself with collecting some more flowers.]

Rupert.

Would you like to join in on my project?

Ha ha ha... Nothing extravagant - simply an act of ceremony... but even ceremonies are often born from a place of emotion.

[he'll walk toward the cemetery, as if that'll explain the rest of it]

[mikazuki doesn't wander too far ahead - always keeping within arm's reach of rupert, in case he might need support]

In truth... I would not say so.

Does it make it presumptuous of me to still leave something?

Fufu... I share the same sentiment.

And so it is typically my duty, to be the one who remembers.

[ . . . he smiles faintly at that.]

Has Tsurumaru Kuninaga informed you why we possess these bodies, Rupert? Why we were granted these human forms and hearts, despite our long existence as blades?

[personal profile] unsaid 2022-06-20 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
That is correct.

We fight to protect the course of history. Throughout time, we are sent on missions in order to ensure that nothing derails from its fated path, so we might be able to preserve the timeline. Blades are sent to ensure the death of their former masters, or forced to relive the horrors of times that they were used to commit atrocities.

[ . . . ]

But it is for the sake of humanity, and I do not know of a sword who has a lack of love for humanity.

Sometimes, we are sent to the same places more than once. Sometimes, we will meet dear friends who had laughed with us, drank with us, and admired flowers with us - and find no recollection in their eyes when we meet again.

But even then - I will always remember, and I will look forward to seeing them again, and again.

Some may call it lonely... but simultaneously I find there is no greater honor, to be able to behold them time and again.

[at rupert's glance up - he will only see serenity in mikazuki's expression... for the most part. there is a glimmer of sadness in his eyes, though it passes quickly, traded for yet another lovely smile.]

... it is as you say.

I have met one of my friends countless times, to see the lotus blossoms bloom. Countless times, to laugh alongside him.

Countless times, to make him a promise that I will bring him a new lotus when we meet again - and I do, even though he might laugh and call me a fool.

And so... I cannot consider my existence lonely, when it is so full of attachment.

[he smiles faintly]

... thank you, for the sentiment.

For me, that is more than enough.

[he will reach out to gently squeeze rupert's shoulder!

they're probably at the cemetery by now, and mikazuki will begin to bring the flowers over to arrange them on the graves]

I am still happy to be as I am.

Even if I am not always happy - but that is alright, for a comrade once told me... it is the sad moments that make us who we are.

Hmm... However you find it most pleasing - I will trust your judgment as well, so it might be a gift from us both.

[to leave the flowers behind.

but at the question, he smiles faintly.]

... I believe that they are part of it. It is the moments of struggle that reveal many things about humanity... and it is also the moments of joy that highlight what all that struggle is for.

[to reclaim those pockets of happiness, wherever they might come]
